God’s Gift: A Review of New Little China
First, let’s set the scene. Picture it: a bustling dining room, the sound of clinking silverware and chattering customers filling the air. In walks yours truly, a food critic armed with nothing but a healthy appetite. Can New Little China live up to the hype, or will it be a total flop?
I don’t want to give too much away just yet, so keep reading to find out whether this eatery in Karachi is still at the top of its game or if it’s time to put it out to pasture. Spoiler alert: it’s going to be a wild ride, so you better buckle up.
Taste: Hot N’ Happenin’
New Little China boasts an extensive menu with something to please every palate. Among the standout dishes I tried was the Honey Chicken Chili Dry – a feast for the senses. Its vibrant red color and sweet and spicy aroma are a delight to behold. The chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the sauce is the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. The flavors come together beautifully, making this dish a perfect balance of sweetness and heat.
Egg Fried Rice is another perfectly executed dish in New Little China. The rice is light and fluffy, with a golden hue that comes from the addition of egg. The flavors are subtle yet satisfying, with the delicate taste of egg enhancing the natural nuttiness of the rice.
Price: A Little Steep
Now, onto the price. Check them out below:
- Honey Chicken Chili Dry: PKR 1300
- Egg Fried Rice: PKR 1100
Keep in mind that these prices are exclusive of the GST. The waiter told me that both dishes were enough for 2-3 persons, but I found the serving size to be rather small. Considering everything, I would say that these prices are a little steep, even by the standards of other Chinese restaurants in the city.
Service: Fast and Friendly
The staff at New Little China was mostly good. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and always happy to answer our questions. However, he had limited knowledge about the menu and made some not-so-great recommendations.
As far as speed of service goes, we received our food in no time at all – perfect for those days when you don’t feel like spending too much time at a restaurant. New Little China also offers delivery services through FoodPanda, making it even easier to get your Chinese food fix whenever you want.
Ambience: Not Much to Offer
Located on Tariq Road, New Little China looks like a large marriage hall, with spacious interiors and simple decorations. It’s suitable for families, but the lack of designated parking can be a bit off-putting. The environment was pleasant enough, though I did find that the cutlery was old and needed replacement.
Honorable Mentions: Time to Chow Down
Picture this: I’m sitting at the table, minding my own business, when suddenly, the Chicken Chowmein arrives, and it’s like a burst of sunshine on a cloudy day! The colors are so vibrant, and the aroma is so delicious that I start drooling on the spot!
But here’s the kicker – the taste was even better than the look and smell combined! The noodles were as tender as a silk pillow, the vegetables were crispier than my morning toast, and the chicken… Oh boy, the chicken was so succulent and flavorful that I wanted to marry it on the spot!
New Little China is definitely still at the top of its game. Sure, there were some minor hiccups, but in my opinion, that’s easily overlooked when you’re chowing down on some of the best Chinese food in town. Needless to say, I’ll be back again and again – and I highly recommend you do the same.
