Trip Down Memory Lane: A Review of Peking Chinese Restaurant

Peking Chinese Restaurant has been around for many years, and it is still as popular today as it was back in the day. The food here is top-notch. Prices are a bit high, but worth it for the quality of the food. Service is excellent, and the ambience is nostalgic and cozy.

What we don’t like

  • They don’t accept card payments

Are you ready for some “wok” and roll? Because today, I am here to review a restaurant that is as legendary as the Great Wall of China itself. Yes, you guessed it right, I am talking about none other than Peking Chinese Restaurant.

If you are a true Karachite,  you must have heard about Peking. It is one of the most iconic Chinese restaurants in Karachi. Serving the best Chinese cuisine in town since ancient times (okay, not that ancient, but you get the idea). It has a sense of nostalgia associated with it and is a childhood favorite for many of us.

But does Peking still live up to its reputation? Well, my taste buds are tingling with excitement to tell you everything about my experience at this iconic eatery. So, keep reading my review to find out whether it’s worth the hype or not.

Taste: Old, Not Obsolete

I have to say that Peking Chinese Restaurant still knows how to “stir-fry” up a storm in the kitchen. First up, we’ve got the Wonton with Noodle Soup – a broth so comforting it’s like a warm hug from your grandma. The delicate, juicy meat just bursts in the mouth, and the noodles are slurp-worthy perfection. One spoonful that transports you to a cozy corner of heaven.

Next, we’ve got the Chicken Manchurian – a dish that’s so delicious; you’ll want to lick the plate clean (don’t worry, I won’t judge!). Coated in a tangy sauce that’s both sweet and savory at the same time, the crispy chicken has just the right amount of kick to keep you on your toes.

And don’t forget to pair it up with Chicken Fried Rice. The rice is fluffy, with just the right amount of chewiness. And the chicken? Oh, the chicken! It’s tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of soy sauce to give it that savory umami flavor that we all know and love.

Price: A Little Pricey, But Worth it

Let’s be honest here, Peking Chinese Restaurant is a little pricey compared to other restaurants in the city. However, if you’re willing to spend a few extra bucks for some lip-smacking food and nostalgic vibes, then this restaurant is definitely worth every penny. Plus, the prices are inclusive of GST (bonus!), so there are no hidden costs. The only downside is that they don’t accept card payments, so make sure you bring enough cash with you.

Service: Still Maintaining its Reputation

I just have to mention how great the service is at Peking Chinese Restaurant. It’s been a long time since I’ve visited Peking, but I’m glad to see that it still has maintained its reputation even after all these years.

From the warm welcome you get as soon as you enter to the hospitable staff who are more than happy to help with any questions and queries, this restaurant truly stands out when it comes to service. And at the end of your meal, they don’t forget to thank you for your visit. Now that’s what I call a customer-oriented experience!

Ambience: Since the ‘90s

Tucked away in the heart of Bahadur Shah Zafar Road, Bahadurabad, Peking Chinese Restaurant is definitely a place that has stood the test of time. The exterior looks a bit worn out, but don’t let that fool you, as the interior of this restaurant is well-maintained and inviting.

There’s something so special about this restaurant – it almost has a magical quality to it. You can sense the nostalgia as soon as you enter the premises, and even though it’s not that crowded, there’s always an air of cheerfulness. What’s more, the restaurant is spotlessly clean – a testament to their commitment to hygiene and safety.

Honorable Mentions: Prawns Don’t Come Out to Play

If you’re looking for something to make your taste buds sing, then these Prawn Egg Rolls are sure to do the trick! Picture a crispy shell that sounds like a drum set as it hits your tongue. And inside? A delightful mixture of juicy prawns and flavorful spices combined with fresh vegetables! You’ll be hard-pressed not to burst out into a song after trying one.

The first bite will make you go, “Wow,” the second bite will make you go, “Oh my,” and by the third bite, you’ll be telling everyone at the table about these egg rolls like you just discovered a hidden treasure. And let’s talk about the dipping sauce, shall we? A tasty mixture of sweetness and tanginess enhances your egg roll experience. I can guarantee that you’ll have urges to lick the plate clean; it is simply mouth-watering!

Final Verdict

So, is Peking Chinese Restaurant worth all the hype? Yes, absolutely! It’s still a winner! It has won my heart (and stomach) once again. If you’re looking for a trip down memory lane and some truly delicious food, then this is the place to be. Grab your chopsticks and let the feasting begin!
