What we don’t like

  • No SD-card Slot.
  • No headphone jack.

Get Ready to take our Mobile Photography Game to the next level.

Samsung A80 is a phone that truly delivers on its promise of exceptional photography capabilities. Its unique notch-less display and dual rotating camera provide an innovative way to take pictures from any angle and in any light condition.

I am sharing my experience with the A80 with you in this review so that you can see for yourself why this phone is worth considering.

Design & Build

  • 219 gm – Bulky.
  • Gorilla Glass 3 at the front.
  • Gorilla Glass 6 at the back.

I appreciate that the front and back of this phone are covered with Gorilla glass – it makes it feel quite premium. The aluminum frame gives a nice touch, too. I found it bulky, though, weighing in at 219 gm. It is a bit heavier than the average smartphone. Its back is strong but could be more attractive.

Colors

Samsung A80 is available in three colors- angel gold, ghost white, and phantom black.

Display

  • 6.7 inches Screen.
  • Super AMOLED Display.
  • Always-on Display.

If I name a feature of A80 on which I can rely, its superb display. The display is great – it has a 6.7 inches Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 20:9 aspect ratio, perfect for watching movies and streaming your favorite shows. I like the Always-on Display because it makes it easier to check notifications without turning on the screen.

Camera – New Rotating Camera Technology

  • 48 MP Rear Camera.
  • Motorized Pop-up camera For Better Selfies.
  • 4k Video at 30fps.

I can bet the camera is amazing. It has a dual 48 MP (wide) rear camera and 8 MP (ultrawide) and ToF 3D (depth) that captures sharp images in any light condition. What truly sets it apart is the motorized pop-up rotating main camera module – it rotates to become the selfie camera, so I can take great selfies without compromising image quality.

Some users complain that their front camera could be better than their rear camera, so this phone is here to help them, as its front and back cameras are the same.

The 4K video recording at 30fps is a bonus too! Its price still needs to justify the camera quality, but it is a great option for those looking to play their mobile photography game.

Performance – Smooth and Stable

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 Chipset.
  • 8GB RAM & 128GB ROM.

A80 is an excellent performer with its Qualcomm SDM730 (8 nm) chipset and Powerful Octa-core CPU combined with Kryo Gold & Silver, making the phone unbeatable in terms of performance. I can run multiple applications simultaneously with minimal lag or stutter.

Memory

I have 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage, which I can not extend as it does not support an SD card. There must be more space or an SD card slot to fulfill a busy professional’s needs.

Outdated Android Version

The Samsung A80 runs on Android 9.0 Pie, and I was disappointed to learn that it is not upgradable to the latest version of Android – 10.

Gaming Experience

I had a good gaming experience, but I have done better with other smartphones. The phone gets a bit warm while playing games at very high graphic settings, but I didn’t experience any sudden lag or stutter.

Battery – Could Provide Better

  • Fast Charging 25W.
  • Li-Po 3700 mAh, non-removable.

I had no issue with battery life when using the A80. It has a Li-Po 3700 mAh, a non-removable battery, and supports fast charging 25W. The battery could provide better performance – it quickly drains if I’m streaming videos or playing games for long periods. But it manages to last through a day if used adequately.

Charging

I am happy with the charging speed – it charges the battery in one hour.

Network & Connectivity – Acceptable

  • Bluetooth 5.0.
  • Accurate and Precise GPS.
  • NFC.
  • USB Type-C.

This phone got everything if I am discussing their network and connectivity. It has Bluetooth 5.0, accurate and precise GPS, and NFC.I use NFC for wireless payments and transfers, making my life much easier. The GPS and Wi-Fi connections are also very good. I found no issues with them. The Wi-Fi connects to my phone easily and rapidly, keeping me relaxed and enhancing my gaming experience.

Sensors – Optical Under-Display Fingerprint

I love the in-display optical fingerprint sensor. It is lightning fast and doesn’t require extra effort from me to unlock the phone. The accelerometer, gyro, proximity, and compass sensors also work fine.

FAST FACTS

Best For:
Design and Screen Display

Battery:
Li-Po 3700 mAh, non-removable

About the Brand:
Samsung is a leading tech company manufacturing smartphones and accessories. It is considered one of the most premium brands.

Final Word

I am overall satisfied with the Samsung A80. It looks nice, runs smoothly and efficiently, has a great display, has good camera quality (especially for selfies), and has decent battery life. The lack of an SD card slot is a bummer, but the smooth performance and great visuals more than make up for it.

I recommend this phone to anyone looking to upgrade their device. It might not be the most powerful phone, but it’s worth trying something new.
