What we don’t like

  • Very expensive
  • Curved screen can get in way
  • No upgrade in charging speed

As April arrives, tech enthusiasts tighten their seat belts, sit back and wait for Samsung’s new release in the “S” series. Year after year, Samsung never fails to amaze us with unique and upgraded features on every newly released model. It is always exciting to see what Samsung has in store for us with the all-new Galaxy S23 Ultra.

But let’s be clear; the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is not just another phone release. It’s a true technological revolution, offering unparalleled advancements and redefining what we thought was possible. With its impressive Dynamic AMOLED display, massive 200MP camera with 100x zoom, and extensive battery with lightning-fast charging, the Galaxy S23 Ultra is a game-changer in every sense of the word. All of these features are packaged in an elegantly-designed body that looks and feels nothing short of premium.

In this review, I’ll dive deep into the features, specs, and performance of the Galaxy S23 Ultra to help you decide if this phone is a good fit for your needs. After reading this review, I’m sure you’ll be convinced that the Galaxy S23 Ultra is a phone built for those who demand excellence from their mobile device.

Design and Display – Ultra Reborn

Phones above 100,000 are often seen as the epitome of luxury and extravagance in the tech industry. And when it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, the design is nothing short of stunning. The moment you hold the device in your hand, you’ll immediately notice the larger camera module on the back compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S22 Ultra. But what really caught my eye is the flatter display that feels more comfortable to use with the S Pen. Though there’s a gentle curve to the 6.8-inch panel, the slimmer curve and flatter surface area offer a more premium feel. The only downside is that it can be a tad challenging to access items with your finger on the extreme edges of the display.

But it’s not just the impressive design; the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is built to be tougher than ever before. It’s the first phone with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2, promising to protect the front and back from scratches and drops. The Galaxy S23 Ultra comes in four gorgeous colors, including Phantom Black, Green, Cream, and Lavender. Personally, I find the green option to be the most striking, followed by the subtle elegance of the lavender. And while it’s natural for high-end phones to attract fingerprints, the design of the S23 Ultra does a commendable job of resisting them.

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 6.8-inch QHD OLED screen is a sight to behold. 3088 x 1400 pixels resolution and a peak brightness of 1,750 nits, the display is nothing short of breathtaking. You get the same 120Hz refresh rate as its predecessor, which can scale down to 1Hz for improved battery life. During my testing, I was thoroughly impressed with the overall image quality of the S23 Ultra’s panel. Whether I was watching The Mandalorian or browsing social media, the colors popped off the screen, and the wide viewing angles ensured a comfortable experience. Even under direct sunlight, the display held up remarkably well.

Performance – The Beast Unleashed

Get ready to experience unparalleled performance on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. This latest phone packs an exclusive version of Qualcomm’s new chip called the Snapdragon 8 Gen for Galaxy, which promises to take mobile phones to new heights. Clocking in at an impressive 3.36 GHz, this processor is the fastest in the world and delivers the best mobile graphics you’ll find on any phone. With these features, the S23 Ultra sets a new standard for mobile phone performance.

I’ve put the Galaxy S23 Ultra through its paces, and the results are that this phone is a powerhouse. I’ve run several benchmarks on it, and it has outperformed even the latest iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max on graphics. When it comes to actual use, I found that the phone is lightning-fast and responsive, especially when switching between apps. The only time I noticed any lag was when trying to edit a 200MP photo in the Gallery app. But even then, the phone held up well.

What about gaming, you ask? I played Call of Duty on the S23 Ultra and was blown away by the stunning graphics and super-responsive controls. Whether I was sliding down a mountain or blasting away enemies, the S23 Ultra never slowed down. And even after half an hour of gaming, I didn’t notice the device getting hot.

Battery Life – Ultra Long-Lasting

I know that battery life is one of the most crucial aspects for users. And with so many mobile phone brands offering varying battery capacities, it’s tough to pick the best. But when it comes to the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, you can rest assured that you’re getting a phone that can easily last you through the day.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts the same 5,000 mAh battery as its predecessor, the S22 Ultra, but it’s more efficient thanks to the new Snapdragon 8 Gen chip. And the results are impressive – in my continuous web surfing test at 150 nits of screen brightness over 4G, the S23 Ultra lasted a whopping 13 hours in Adaptive mode, where the screen can go up to 120Hz. That’s a significant improvement from the S22 Ultra’s 10-hour battery life.

But it’s not just the battery life that’s impressive. The S23 Ultra also charges quickly. In the charging test, the phone reached 55% in just 30 minutes, though it’s slightly below Samsung’s claim of 65%.

Operating System – One UI 5.1

Are you ready for the ultimate software experience on a mobile phone? The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts the newest One UI 5.1 software with many exciting features. One of the coolest new additions is Bixby Text Call, where Samsung’s assistant can answer calls for you and take messages via speech-to-text or voice typing. Although it might surprise callers initially, this feature is handy when you’re in the middle of something important.

But that’s not all. The S23 Ultra’s software also offers a new Modes option that lets you create customized settings for different aspects of your life. Whether you want to optimize your phone for sleep, exercise, driving, or work, you can create a personalized experience that caters to your needs. For example, if you’re driving, you can set your phone to automatically go into “Driving Mode” and read incoming messages aloud so you can keep your hands on the wheel.

Camera – Unprecedented Image Quality

The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra has finally hit the market, and as a tech industry expert, I’ve put its camera to the test. And let me tell you; it’s nothing short of impressive. For starters, the rear camera boasts an incredible 200MP sensor, which is a first for any flagship phone in Pakistan. With this sensor, you can capture poster-sized prints, and the adaptive pixel technology combines 16 pixels into one larger pixel, delivering brighter and more detailed photos, even in low-light conditions.

But that’s not all. With the 200MP phone, you also have the option to crop in on the image after you shoot without sacrificing detail. I was blown away by the results when I snapped a photo of Mazar e Quaid surrounded by greenery. The level of detail and the ability to zoom in on the image without losing quality were truly remarkable. It’s worth noting that the establishing shot was in 12MP, but the cropping and zooming capabilities are simply outstanding.

Moving on to the front camera, the Galaxy S23 Ultra features a new 12MP selfie shooter, which may seem like a downgrade from its predecessor’s 40MP camera. However, thanks to improved AI and a compelling Night portrait mode, Samsung promises better portraits overall. And let’s not forget the impressive zoom capabilities. With dual 10MP telephoto lenses, 3x and 10x optical zoom, and a powerful 30x digital zoom option, you can easily capture distant details. The 100x Space Zoom option is also available, though the results may be shaky.
