What we don’t like

  • The service is average at best
  • There's not enough space so it can get crowded and noisy

The next time you return late at night after a PSL match, do remember to pit-stop at Shandar Shinwari Hotel.

Karachi is a foodie’s paradise, with an abundance of restaurants and eateries to choose from. And if you’re looking for a unique and delicious meal that won’t break the bank, look no further than Shandar Shinwari Hotel. The food here is not only delicious but also reasonably priced. The taste is truly unique! The spices used in the dishes are perfectly balanced, giving each dish a distinctive flavor.

The restaurant is opposite Saima Square-1 Mall, National Stadium Road, Gulshan-e-Jamal, making it accessible from all over Karachi.

So, when you’re feeling peckish, be sure to check out Shandar Shinwari Restaurant! You won’t regret it.

Food: You’ll Be In Heaven

Shandar Shinwari Hotel has an excellent reputation for providing reasonably priced quality food. The menu features a variety of traditional Pakistani dishes, as well as some international favorites. I wasn’t disappointed – the starters were delicious and the main course was even better.

Shandar Shinwari Hotel’s Chicken Handi was a decadent, rich, flavorful dish. It was perfect for a late-night hangout with friends. In a tomato-based sauce, the chicken was cooked in a tomato-based sauce, with plenty of butter, cream, and spices.

The chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender, and the sauce was thick, creamy, and packed with flavored basmati rice or naan bread, and it felt fit for a king!

You absolutely cannot leave Shandar Shinwari Hotel without trying their Palak Paneer. The spinach was cooked perfectly, and the paneer too was fresh and flavourful. The dish is topped off with a beautiful garam masala spice blend that really brought all the flavors together.

The taste of Roghni Naan was simply amazing. The naan was soft and fluffy, with a slightly crisp exterior. It was infused with butter and ghee, which gave it a rich flavor.

And if you’re looking for another mouth-watering chicken dish to try, we highly recommend the Chicken Karahai at Shandar Shinwari Hotel. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed!

Price: Affordable

My cousins were visiting Karachi from abroad. On their last night in the city, I along with two of my cousins decided to have a farewell dinner. Our cumulative order was:

  • Chicken Makhni Handi (Half): PKR 930
  • Palak Paneer: PKR 300
  • Roghni Naan: PKR 35

Prices are a bit higher if you consider the smaller serving size. Nevertheless, the prices are still lower compared to high-end restaurants in Karachi.

Service: Average at Best

The service was not spectacular, but it also wasn’t terrible. The waiters were attentive and polite. They cleared our plates quickly and brought us refills when we needed them. Overall, the service was satisfactory.

Ambiance: Not Enough Space

The place was fairly crowded. Even though valet service is available, you should expect some parking issues.

The seating area is extensive with ‘throne’ type seating both outdoors and indoors. The ambiance was average, nothing special. There was a separate area designated for families. There was a bit of suffocation, but it was a nice place.

Overall, a good place if you want to have good desi food, especially with friends. They provide free Iftar for people dining in during Ramadan which is a plus point.

Honorable Mentions: Go Desi

Dal Makhni by Shandar Shinwari is the rich, flavor-packed meal you’re looking for – black lentils and red kidney beans simmered in a creamy gravy of tomatoes, onions, and butter. It’s genuinely indulgent!

The dish gets its name from the key ingredient – molten butter.

Furthermore, the slow cooking process melts all the flavors together beautifully.

Final Verdict:

All in all, I recommend Shandar Shinwari Hotel if you’re looking for a good meal at a reasonable price. The food is delicious and the ambiance is decent. Just be prepared to deal with some parking issues.
