Embarking on an immersive gaming journey requires the perfect audio companion, and the SteelSeries Arctis 7P aims to be just that. Building upon the success of its predecessor, the Arctis 7, this wireless gaming headset brings together the best hardware elements from other Arctis headsets while keeping an eye on the future.
As an avid gamer, I had the opportunity to thoroughly test the Arctis 7P and explore its design, build quality, comfort, features, audio performance, microphone capabilities, battery life, and more. Join me as I delve into the world of the SteelSeries Arctis 7P and share my personal experiences.
Design of SteelSeries Arctis 7P: An Unparalleled Experience
If you’ve used almost any Arctis headset before, a lot of this review will seem familiar. The SteelSeries Arctis 7P features a near-identical build to its predecessor. The headphone sports a largely metal construction, with an aluminum frame and a suspension band modeled after a ski goggle headband. The hinges, while made of slightly flimsy plastic, offer a decent range of motion.
For me, the comfort factor plays a significant role, and the Arctis 7P doesn’t disappoint. The suspension band balances the weight exceptionally well, and the Airweave fabric-covered ear pads provide a comfortable fit while minimizing heat build-up. As a gamer who wears glasses, this is a big improvement over most leatherette options. The headband may lack tension, but it establishes a fine seal easily enough.
The SteelSeries 7P has impressive build quality due to its sturdy plastic body, padded with fabric, and headband strap made of elastic ski-band. Though its yokes and hinges seem a bit fragile, I am confident that it can withstand a few drops without getting seriously damaged.
Features and Controls of SteelSeries Arctis 7P: A User-Friendly Experience
The SteelSeries Arctis 7P offers good controls that include a volume wheel and a sidetone wheel with min/max stops, a microphone mute button, and a power button. The power button doubles as a playback function, allowing easy control over calls and music. The mute mic button has audio feedback, and the LED light on the mic turns red when muted. However, the sidetone and volume wheels lack distinction and a middle notch.
SteelSeries Engine compatibility adds customization options for EQ settings, mic volume, and power saver adjustments. Although not essential for the full experience, it provides minor tweaks to enhance user usage.
Connectivity & Microphone
The SteelSeries Arctis 7P is a wireless gaming headset that connects to my PC or console of choice with a 2.4 GHz USB RF dongle. A USB-C dongle expands compatibility to the Nintendo Switch, both docked and undocked, in addition to PlayStation and PC. Furthermore, it does not have Bluetooth connectivity; the detachable 3.5mm cord enables connectivity to an Xbox One controller or even smartphones.
The microphone on this gaming accessory is clear, although there is a drop in bass and midrange to avoid distortion. People with deep voices might experience slight distortion, but overall, it provides a satisfactory experience.
Audio Quality of SteelSeries Arctis 7P: The Sound for Gamers
In terms of audio quality, the SteelSeries Arctis delivers accurate sound for a gaming headset. The frequency response is consumer-friendly, with a notable bass boost and slightly de-emphasized midrange. This makes it ideal for bass-heavy tracks but may not fully capture the subtleties of strings and vocals. In-game, the audio output performs well, with explosions and gunfire effectively immersing me in the action.
Battery Life & Noise Isolation: Reliable and Immersive
The brand claimed a battery life of up to 24 hours; but the SteelSeries Arctis 7P exceeds expectations, lasting 27 hours and 19 minutes at a consistent output. This impressive performance surpasses its predecessor, making it a reliable choice for prolonged gaming sessions.
Despite not featuring top-of-the-line active noise-canceling technology like the best noise-canceling headphones, the 7P headset provides commendable noise isolation. While it may not completely eliminate external distractions, it effectively ensures an immersive gaming experience by minimizing interference from ambient noise.
