Review of Tecno Pop 5

Tired of having to charge your phone multiple times a day? Tecno Pop 5 is the perfect solution!

In order to make this claim, I tested the performance, battery, display, operating system, and camera.

Although the phone lacks a chipset and GPU, it more than makes up for it with its impressive battery capacity. Are the other specs up to par with the battery?

Design – Not Durable:

Very basic design. It is made entirely of plastic. Frankly, this makes it feel quite cheap!

The phone is also quite small, which may be uncomfortable for some users. There is no Gorilla Glass protection. This is very dangerous as the phone will be gone if it drops. 

That’s why I would not recommend this to anyone who wants a durable phone.

Performance – Disappointment Guaranteed:

First and foremost, the Tecno Pop 5 is very underpowered.  It doesn’t offer much in terms of specs or performance. 

It has a slow processor and only 2GB of RAM, so it’s not suitable for gaming or multitasking. Furthermore, there is no chipset or GPU. Disappointing! 

Even low-tier phones at least have both of these features. Heating issues are also experienced with this phone.

Not worth it in the slightest.  

Battery Life – Quite Impressive:

We have a winner!

The Tecno Pop 5 has a 4000mAh battery which is pretty impressive. In addition, the phone also comes with a power-saving mode that can help extend the battery life even further. 

Software – Excellent:

Tecno Pop 5 comes with HIOS. This is Tecno’s custom Android skin. I was pretty surprised by this fact but it left me quite satisfied based on how well the services available were.

HIOS offers a number of benefits over other Android skins, including better performance and stability, as well as a number of additional features. Excellent indeed!

One of the most notable features of HIOS is the inclusion of Smart Gestures. These allow you to perform certain actions by swiping on the screen, making it easier and more intuitive to use your phone. 

I also found a number of other features useful, such as the improved notification panel and lock screen. 

Camera – Low Quality:

The camera is extremely below-average. Dual 5 MP cameras are not that great when it comes to photo quality. VGA is an older and lower quality resolution, so photos taken with the Tecno Pop 5’s camera are of poorer quality than those taken with a more modern smartphone. 

Additionally, the LED flash is not very bright. So, low-light photos usually turn out poorly. This left me feeling frustrated with the phone!

Final Word

After everything has been said and done, Tecno Pop 5 is a mixed bag in terms of the quality of the specs. But the demerits end up far outweighing the merits. 

The phone is not durable at all and looks unattractive. It also lacks a chipset and GPU, which was frankly unheard of by me. The camera quality was the deciding factor, and the phone failed to deliver in this regard. The battery is the only saving grace.

Thus, I would not recommend you upgrade your phone to Tecno Pop 5.
