What we don’t like

  • The garlic naan could be more garlicky

Looking for an authentic Afghan dining experience? Try Vakah Shinwari.

I know. I know. It’s not the fanciest or most well-known establishment like other restaurants are. But their food will make your taste buds jump for joy. You’ll be licking your plate clean by the time you finish! I promise that this restaurant is one you won’t want to miss.

Still unconvinced?

The solution is simple – Afghani Kabuli Pulao. It is definitely the best traditional dish the restaurant offers, and it is worth trying at least once. Even if Afghan cuisine is not your thing, the variety of Pulao here is so good that it might just change your mind.

So even if you’re hesitating now, make sure to give Vakah Shinwari a chance. You won’t regret it.

Food: Flavorful and Fragrant

The Afghani Kabuli Pulao is definitely the star of the show! It’s an excellent example of what an authentic Afghan dish is. That’s the reason the dish is the restaurant’s bestseller.

The rice was cooked perfectly, and the combination of spices and meats created a rich and flavorful dish. The meat was especially tender, and the overall taste was hearty and delicious. The Pulao definitely left me satisfied.

The Mutton Mandi was next level.

The meat was cooked until it became tender. It was then paired with basmati rice that had been boiled in broth. A unique assortment of spices is used in the dish, and so its flavor profile includes cumin, cardamom, cloves, and black pepper.

Once plated, the Mutton Mandi got final touches in the form of slivered almonds and chopped scallions as well as a dollop of yogurt placed atop it prior to serving.

The Garlic Naan was okay. It could’ve been more garlicky for my taste.

Price: Perfect For Youngsters

Disclaimer: The prices quoted below are subject to change. The current prices are dated 1 July 2022. (As per the official FaceBook page).

I went with two other guys to celebrate our graduation. Our cumulative order was:

  • Afghani Kabuli Pulao: PKR 450
  • Mutton Mandi (Half): PKR 1600
  • Garlic Naan (6): PKR 60

I was very impressed with the price. It is exceptionally reasonable for young people to hang out in large groups.

Service: Authentically Afghan

The service here is lovely—the staff are attentive and make you feel right at home. This is representative of true Afghan traditions regarding hospitality and brotherhood.

Ambiance: Feels Like Home

I was awestruck by the hospitable atmosphere as soon as I arrived at Vakah Shinwari. The restaurant is cozy and has lovely decor, with traditional elements and soft lighting.

Honorable Mentions: A Karahi Heaven

You can’t really go wrong with Karahi. No matter wherever you try it, the taste will always remind you of home.

I would request you to try Butt Karahi, it’s the finest Karahi the restaurant is offering. It is a delectable dish consisting of chicken pieces cooked flawlessly in a gravy made with tomatoes, onions, and various spices. This meal goes best with naan or roti. The meat is tender and the sauce has an excellent flavor from the addition of several seasonings.

Final Verdict:

Craving some delicious food but don’t want to spend a fortune? Vakah Shinwari is the perfect spot for anyone looking for tasty Afghan cuisine at affordable prices. The restaurant provides a comfortable dining experience, making it an ideal choice for a casual meal with friends or family.
