It’s Anything But Vanilla: A Review of Vanellis

As soon as I heard whispers of Vanellis and its exquisite cuisine especially the pastas‘, I knew I had to experience it for myself. The name alone was intriguing, igniting my imagination of something exciting, adventurous, and, most of all, delicious. So, with high expectations and an empty stomach, I made my way to the restaurant, eager to see what all the fuss was about.

Taste: Red, White & Hot

I felt a rising sense of excitement as I sat down, eager to explore the menu that promised to be anything but vanilla. There are not many restaurants in Karachi serving good pasta, but I’m happy to report is one of the best among them!

The mere thought of Vanellis’ Bolognese Spaghetti Pasta has me salivating. A friend of mine had recommended it with such enthusiasm that I couldn’t resist the temptation to order it for myself. From the first forkful, I knew that I was in for something truly special.

The slow-cooked meat sauce was preceded by an aroma that filled my senses, and I could practically taste the depth of flavor before even biting into it.  And then, when I finally dug in, I was blown away by the richness of the sauce, the pasta was perfect al dente,  and the fresh, fragrant herbs elevated the dish to something truly extraordinary.

The dish had a base of the subtle sweetness of the onion and garlic, and the generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese added that  nutty, salty note that tied everything together.

Price: A Bit of a Deal Breaker

One downside to dining at Vanellis is that the prices can be a little steep, especially when it comes to certain dishes. For example, the Bolognese Spaghetti Pasta that I had was priced at a whopping PKR 1199, which may be considered a little high, all things considered.

While the food at Vanellis is undeniably delicious, the prices can be a deterrent for those following  a tight budget. However, it’s worth noting that the portion sizes are generous, so dining with a group can make it a wee bit affordable if the cost is split. 

Service: Satisfactory with Superb Customer Handling

While the food at Vanellis was undeniably outstanding, the same could not be said for the service. The service was satisfactory overall, the waiters were a bit inattentive and careless with both the food and the bill. However, what stood out was their superb customer handling training.

Although I had to remind the waiters a couple of times to bring the water and the bill, they accepted their mistakes without any arguments and rectified them promptly. It was clear that they had been trained to handle customers with care and respect.

Despite the average service, I was impressed with the level of accessibility that Vanellis offered. As a foodpanda user, I was thrilled to find that I could order their delicious food online and have it delivered straight to my doorstep.

Ambience: Simple & Straightforward

When I visited the Vanellis outlet in North Nazimabad, I was greeted with a clean and air-conditioned space that was comfortable and welcoming. The ambience was nothing fancy, but it was exactly what I had come to expect from a standard food chain in Karachi.

The interior of the restaurant was simple and functional, with ample seating for customers. While there were no frills or embellishments, the clean and well-maintained space was pleasant and conducive to enjoying a good meal.

It’s worth noting that Vanellis also serves customers in the food courts of LuckyOne Mall & Dolmen City Mall. A quick and convenient bite that satisfies your taste buds is right there for you to devour if you are out and about.

Honorable Mentions: Enter the Pizzeria

If you thought Vanellis was just about pasta, think again! For pizza lovers, Vanellis is the promised land. There were so many Pizza options, in fact, that I almost felt a little overwhelmed. 

From the classic Cheese Pizza to the spicy Fajita Pizza, there’s something for everyone. Feeling adventurous? Try the Tikka Pizza or the Shawarma Pizza for a taste of the exotic. And if you’re looking for something creamy and indulgent, the Malai Pizza is sure to hit the spot.
